Accomodation at a Glance

Layout of a typical unit at the Lodge.
A fully furnished unit (we call it a "cluster") is made up of 3 bedrooms with common lounge and bathroom areas. Each bedroom has its own key which only opens that one bedroom door. The bathroom and fully air-conditioned living areas are shared with two other students per cluster.
Each bedroom includes your own telephone and internet connection and each cluster has a fridge, microwave and television.
Clusters do not have kitchen facilities, however they have a microwave, kettle and fridge. Clusters are usually gender exclusive.
Cleaning
The lounge and bathroom areas of each cluster are serviced weekly.
Linen & Laundry Facilities
A linen pack is provided on arrival. It is the resident's responsibility to launder these as required. Linen packs are made up of sheets, pillow and pillowcase, light blanket, towel and bathmat. Alternatively, residents are welcome to bring their own linen to help make their rooms more "homey.
Each building has a laundry with multi washing machines and driers for use by residents. Clothes lines are also available.
Security
A licensed security officer monitors and patrols all residential and public areas throughout the night to ensure the safety and security of students and their possessions.
Residential Assistants
The Residential Assistants (RAs) role is to assist residents in the process of assimilation into their new environment and to assist in their personal, professional and academic development.
Telephone
Each room has its own phone line with voicemail facilities. Residents are billed for calls and statements issued fortnightly. Call charges are approximately $0.40 AUD per local call, long distance and mobile phones are more expensive and charged per minute. 1800 numbers and room to room calling is free.
Computer and Internet Facilities
All JCU students have high-speed access via cat5/fibre optic connection direct from their private study desk to the James Cook University Computer system. A central computer room is also available to all residents. Casual guests, language students and other non-JCU students can use WiFi internet connection.
