Duty of care

At Footprints Cairns Student Lodge we understand that parents need to feel secure that their child will be well looked after during their stay at the Lodge.

We understand that when it comes time for them to leave home, spread their wings and start on their own life adventure you want to know that you have found the best possible place to be their second home.

At the Lodge we take our ‘duty of care’ responsibilities very seriously and have put in place a number of safeguards which will give you peace of mind to ensure our young students’ safety. We understand that you want the best living arrangements for your child which are conducive to providing an optimum study environment, as well as a safe, secure and friendly place to live.

In good company

We have a team of friendly and experienced staff to assist students with their personal, professional and academic development.

A number of Residential Assistants [RAs] also live on site. The RAs are student residents who have lived at the Lodge for at least a semester prior to taking on this important role. They help new residents settle in and provide support to them - like members of a second family.

Safety and security

Our Lodge is located in Smithfield, a safe suburb in the prestigious northern beaches area of Cairns. Despite this, we still have on-site security.

Our security officer patrols throughout the night, seven nights a week, to ensure the students and their possessions are safe and secure. As well, the police, fire and ambulance services are located within a kilometre of the Lodge should an emergency arise.

Opposite the Lodge, on Faculty Close, there is a local shopping village which includes a medical centre, dental clinic and pharmacy. Our students need never be far away from medical attention.

Life at the Lodge

People who live in north Queensland are very friendly and relaxed. This is true within the Lodge ‘family’ as well and it doesn’t take long before the new students feel at home and are making friends.

Footprints Cairns Student Lodge students and staff alike help to create this friendly community: it is truly a ‘home away from home’.

Family members are always welcome at the Lodge and, since Cairns has both an international and a domestic airport terminal, it is easily accessible for visits.

The Lodge has a small shuttle bus and we arrange airport bus transfers for our students on arrival and departure.

The bus makes regular trips to the city, just 20 minutes away, for students to attend the city language and business colleges or for the opportunity to shop at the large city centres.

The Lodge units are fully-furnished and each resident has a private bedroom. All rooms have security screens installed. There are three students within each unit and each shares the bathroom and lounge facilities with only two other students.
